Ballpark figures, not quotations. Ranges compiled from price guides published by South African carport and building-cost websites, checked 14 October 2026 and rounded. They are not our prices and no contractor is bound by them. The installer list and regional guide are supply-and-install prices. Job estimates are user-submitted and not confirmed. Towns outside Cape Town may differ, and slabs, approvals and heritage applications are extra. The sources mostly do not say whether VAT is included, so confirm VAT on every quote.

Salt Air
- Near the sea, salt air attacks bare steel, cut edges and cheap fixings first.
- Ask for hot-dip galvanising with a coastal-grade coating, or aluminium.
- Use stainless steel or matching coated fixings.
- Rinse salt off the frame and roof a few times a year.
Sloping Driveways
- Posts are cut to different lengths so the roof can stay level or follow the slope.
- Roof water must drain away from the garage and the neighbour's property.
- Footings on a slope may need to go deeper. Ask how they are designed.
- See custom carports for awkward sites.
Heritage Rules
- Any alteration to a building older than 60 years needs a permit from Heritage Western Cape. A carport fixed to the house is an alteration.
- In a Heritage Protection Overlay zone, adding a new structure needs City approval.
- Check before you request quotes: the City's Environmental and Heritage Management district offices can confirm what applies to your property.
- A freestanding carport in keeping with the street is usually easier to get approved.
Wind and Rain
Wind is the main design load for a carport in Simon's Town. Loose shade net flaps and tears, and badly fixed sheets lift. Winter rain means gutters and downpipes matter as much as the roof.
Approval in Simon's Town
- An open-sided carport of up to 40 m² is minor building work under the National Building Regulations, but you still apply before building.
- Simon's Town falls under the City of Cape Town. Apply to the City of Cape Town's building development management office.
- Larger carports, and carports over a building line or servitude, normally need full plans.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a carport cost in Simon's Town?
A Cape Town installer lists shade net shadeports at R10,500 for one car and R13,500 for two, and steel carports at R22,500 and R34,800 installed. Your quotes depend on size, roof and site.
Do I need approval for a carport in Simon's Town?
Yes, in most cases. Small open carports can qualify as minor building work, but you still apply to the City of Cape Town before building. Larger carports need full plans.
Which carport lasts best near the sea in Simon's Town?
Aluminium, or steel that is hot-dip galvanised with a coastal-grade coating, plus stainless or matching fixings. Rinse salt off regularly.
Can a carport be built on a steep driveway in Simon's Town?
Yes. Posts are cut to different heights and the footings and drainage are designed for the slope. Expect a site visit before a firm price.
Is a shadeport enough in Simon's Town?
For sun, yes. For hail, no. Shade net lets hail through and can tear, so cars parked outside in summer storms are better under a solid roof.
