- Measure. The installer checks vehicle sizes, boundaries, slope, drainage and where posts can go, from photos or a visit.
- Choose the design. Frame, roof, size and finish are agreed, with a drawing for approval where needed.
- Set footings. Posts are cast into concrete or bolted to base plates on a suitable slab.
- Erect the frame. Posts, beams and purlins go up square and level.
- Fit the roof. Sheeting or shade net is fixed and tensioned, with gutters and flashing on solid roofs.

Carport Materials
- Steel. Strong and affordable. Hot-dip galvanising or a coastal-grade coating decides how long it lasts.
- Aluminium. Does not rust. Check whether the frame or only the roof is aluminium.
- Timber. Warm look, needs H3 or H4 treated timber and regular sealing.
- Roof sheeting. IBR, corrugated, pre-painted steel or polycarbonate for rain and hail cover.
- Shade net. HDPE fabric that blocks sun and UV but not rain.
Solid Roof or Shade Net
- Solid roof. Keeps rain, hail and bird droppings off. Costs more and needs gutters.
- Shade net. Cheaper and cooler underneath. Not waterproof, and the net needs replacing in time.
