What Changes the Price
- Roof material. Shade net is cheapest, then IBR, then pre-painted, polycarbonate and insulated sheeting.
- Frame. Light galvanised tube costs less than heavy I-beams, laminated timber or aluminium extrusions.
- Design. Cantilever and clear-span designs need bigger sections and footings.
- Coating. Hot-dip galvanising and coastal-grade coatings add cost but last longer near the sea.
- Site. Slopes, rock, tight access and paving that must be lifted all add labour.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a double carport cost in South Africa?
Published guides put a double steel carport with an IBR roof at roughly R14,000 - R35,000 installed, and a double shadeport at R7,500 - R15,000. Size, coating and site work move the price most.
Do carport prices include VAT?
Not always. Most published price guides do not say. Ask every contractor whether the quote includes 15% VAT and compare like with like.
Why do carport quotes vary so much?
Section sizes, coatings, roof sheeting, footings and what is excluded differ between installers. A cheap quote may leave out the slab, gutters or approval.
Is a concrete slab included?
Usually not. Most carport prices cover the structure and roof, with posts cast into individual footings. A full slab or paving is normally a separate cost.
Is it cheaper to buy a carport kit?
A kit saves on labour, but you still need footings, tools and possibly approval. Poorly fixed kits are a common cause of wind damage.
What does a carport cost per m²?
